Returning to the Heard

« on: July 26, 2012, 04:49:45 PM »
I have returned to the heard... Joined a few years ago and went astray but I am back now.  Still working on the 72 Baja Champion Super Beatle.  She is stuck in storage right now, will be getting her out soon and back on the raod.  New wife is really wanting to go for a ride in ole betsy so I am wanting to make momma happy you know.

Hope to see everyone again soon.

Well most records report that between 1,000 to 1,300 were imported to the US in 72.  Unfortunately they share the original paint color (silver/blue, L96M) and rims with the Marathon Beetle so they get confused with each other often.  The badge and the Baja decal stripe above the running boards is really about the only thing that set them off from the Marathon.

The folks over as SEBeetles.com have some pretty good info.

Most regrettably mine was painted red before she was parked under an oak tree for several years (to become a nest for ants) before I found her. There are patches of the original paint that are still visible in small areas and as soon as I get the body work completed I will get her painted back to as close as I can get to her original color.

During my divorce from the ex I had to put into a storage unit so she has not seen the road for  a few years now.  My awesome wife now keeps telling me that I am to purchase a new part each month so I can get the old girl back into driving shape and get her back to some of the drive ins and shows.  Guess I should get do following her "requests" and get off my lazy bum....  ;D ;D
