From a bug to a Bus

« on: November 24, 2013, 06:14:00 PM »
Hi!
My name is Mike, I am the researcher, fixer, finder and maintainer of what was once a one of a kind 1967 VW bug to now a 1969 VW Deluxe Bus. My daughter did not want to be like her twin brother, so buying two bugs was out! she recieved the new car and my son the bug. Over one year was spent making, spending time and bringing back what I thought was the cooest project on earth. Only months later to find out my son had other ideas! we are now working on a 1969 bus....What have I gotten myself into?

What have I gotten myself into?

My dad and both his brothers served in WWII . . . well, needless to say, if it was made in Germany or Japan, it didn't come in our yard.  When my step-son was 14 we started looking for a project car for us to work on.  After months of looking a rusty junk gas hogs, we past a 71 Beetle for sale for $125.  It needed everything.  I wasn't too keen on the idea of him driving one of those German death traps, but the price was right and I figured if he did put in the sweat equity and get it going, we could always "upgrade" him to a real car.  Two years later I walked out to go to work one morning and realized I had over 20 VWs in my back yard.  I don't really remember what happened between those two events . . .  ;D
