VW/Audi is issuing a recall on coil packs on most models 2001-2007. Well they call it an "inspection and replacement program" but still.

Just call the dealer if your car applies, it doesn't take very long, the 1.8s have such a bad rep for the coils going bad it is worth it, most poeple have a couple of recalls on there car if they haven't been to the dealer in a while

I've got an open recall on the ignition switch on my 96 Passat . . . and it's about the only thing on the car that hasn't given me any trouble.   :?

did you ever figure out anything with your radio?,  about the only thing i have seen wrong with the passats with the recall is trying to get the old plastic trim out around,  you may just wait till it goes bad

Nope, the radio is still in the SAFE mode.  Been watching eBay for a while for a good used one, but with shipping they are usually close to 100 bucks or more.  The two or three cheap ones I found didn't say anything about the security code and the sellers wouldn't respond to my email . . . I guess I'll throw an aftermarket unit in it some day.  It needs front wheel bearings and the transmission slips bad when it's cold . . . and the check engine light has been on since the day after we bought it . . . it miss-fires on #3 when it's cold. I've replaced the driver's door handle 3 times and window regulator twice since last December and both are giving trouble again.  The clear coat is peeling off and it has a couple of rust spots on the driver's side doors.  Other than that, it's a pretty nice car!   I'm not too worried about the switch at this point . . .

My passenger rear door lock has been inoperative for nearly 6 months.

Not enough time in the day for the chores.... only for playtime.   :D
