ends up (after a lot of crap) that I'd be better off trading her in....  :'(  Now I have to find another used bug at a good price with everything I wanted.  This absolutely sucks....

Find out what other years / cars has that tranny and start watching the pull-a-parts in Atlanta.  IF you can find a car with the tranny you need and IF it's good, it'll set you back less than $100.  http://www.pullapart.com

the stupid ass mechanic who has had my car for over a month.

problem with that is I can't go any longer without a car.  I have to have one as soon as I get back from vacation.  I may just suck it up and buy a brand new one.

he swore the next day he'd have it done.  well ends up he didn't even get the right transmission.  after going through all that for-freaking-ever he calls and tells me it's going to be $2,500 for the rebuilt transmission for my car, that's not including labor at all.  OK, fine.  He said though that it'd just keep giving me trouble and I'd be a lotter better off $-wise and in the end if I traded my baby in.  I found one exactly like her, just a 2006, in Atlanta so on our way back from Hilton Head this Saturday we may stop and take a look if they haven't sold it yet.  I had toyed with the idea of trading up when the transmission problem first came about, but decided against it thinking I wouldn't be able to find another used one just like her.  Now that I have....I'm kind of leaning that way.  Sometimes I wish I was a chic mechanic just so I could do this all myself.  haha

FYI... 6-speed auto trannies have seen their fair share of issues.  I have seen a number of them with problems.  Perhaps a vert with a manual transmission would be a better bet.   ;)

You might trade up today, but be right back in the same boat next month.

On another note, you probably won't find one of these in a salvage yard.  We had one recently here, nobody in the U.S. had one except for one, out west, it was more than the reman one we got through VW.  Like I said, they've had some issues, so ones don't sit long when they show up at a wrecking yard.

it's just my luck.  hah  go figure I want the dream car that has issues. my fiance tried to teach me how to drive his manual nissan on the way here to the beach.  I got in it for 5 minutes, got extremely frustrated, and told him no way.

I own 6 cars.  All have a manual transmission.

My girlfriend's is a Jetta with an Automatic.   :D

Of course, she wants me to get the Ghia running so she can drive that one.

yeah, he swears that once I figure it out that it will be easy and i won't even notice when I shift the car.  I keep telling him, "it just looks like too much work when I watch you drive!"

No Autostick.  She actually enjoys driving the manual trans, but for her daily ride, an automatic was easier.   ;D

Hopefully, I'll have it going later this summer.

Hopefully.
