Diesel Rabbit head - Truck

« on: April 12, 2013, 10:18:04 AM »
OK, looking at another project and it is a rabbit truck.
It needs a head, does any one have a known good head and a rebuilt pump?
Sal?
Russ?
Thanks,
KC

He has the toasted head on the truck, and then has a head that was taken apart and run to dover for a clean and check.
he has all the valves / springs etc. for the new head, I would just have to put it together and put it on the truck.
I am assuming that the pump will be bad as well after sitting, so I am going worst case on it as well.
He wants $200 for the head, just looking to see if there are other cheaper options.

I have a head. Needs a cam, but it is fresh from the machine shop with new guides and seals as needed. It is a mechanical head it will need to be shimmed. If your engine is original it should fit. The earlier diesels had a smaller head bolt. And i am pretty sure that what this one is. I can measure it tomorrow. The pump you should be able to get it running on the original pump even if it is with a heavy ATF/diesel mix. Then decide if you want to reseal or rebuild. The bearings in the snout of the pump go bad and cause the pump shaft to wobble and leak of course. I recommend a Giles pump if you are planning on keeping it and driving it in any traffic. It is a huge difference without killing your mileage. He offers many different levels but expect a 2-3 week turn around.

Thanks Sal.
I texted you, I'll call after I check the strut towers and sit in it.
