1993 golf

« on: August 28, 2012, 08:57:04 AM »
I had new struts installed on my car, but it does not look right plus the car shakes,  i had the rims and tires inspected and balanced all its OK  now my next guess is that they did a bad installation on the struts.

Who installed the struts? What doesn't look right about them? Are they tightened down all the way?

the struts were installed by a mechanic that normally deals with domestic cars.  the top mount on the struts have a gap between it and the body, I don't know if they are tightened down all the way, that is the reason i wanted to see a  picture to compare, i tried to attached one to the forum but it wont let me.   thanks for your help Russ

You should come out to Lupi's in East Brainerd tonight and let us gander at it. Probably (hopefully) something simple...

It tells me that the file its to large.  Lupi's ?  what time.  my oil light and alarm turned on at lunch  so i will be replacing the oil pressure switch and the crack shaft hose after work. I notice it was ruptured.  I'm hoping is not the oil pump.

There is supposed to be a gap like you have. As long as you are not hearing clunking or popping while going over bumps or dips in the road you are ok.

If the pressure switch does not fix it, check the filter, if it has been "frammed" you may consider changing to a mann or mahle filter.

Amen on using Mahle or Mann filters!

I did a bunch of work on my 96 Passat (2.0 ABA) about three years ago (replaced a bunch of oil seals and the oil pan gasket.  When I put it back on the road, my oil pressure alarm went crazy.  I replace both oil pressure sensors and it didn't help.  I was about to pull my hair out, because this engine had never had an oil pressure problem, just a bunch of oil leaks.  I posted the problem here and someone ask what brand of filter I was using.  They had an oil change special at AutoZone that included a Fram filter, so that's what I used . . . I was told that was probably my problem . . . and it was.  I put a Mahle filter on it and it's been fine ever since.

Nobody in LaFayette carries them, so I usually order my oil filters from http://www.autohausaz.com/  I buy 3 or 4 at a time so I always have one on hand when it's time for an oil change.  Now that I think about it, I think I'm out.  Guess I need to order some myself.
