SSL now enabled for volksfolks.org

volksfolks.org is being served with https! SSL is now the default and you should see a little padlock in your address bar when you visit the site. Each page is encrypted before it is sent to your browser, which means nobody can snoop or intercept the content along the way.

There is a growing trend for encryption to be adopted more widely by the web, and not just for sites like banking or financial. Browsers like Firefox and Chrome are starting to flag sites as 'not secure' if they attempt to collect passwords or credit card info without encryption.

The certificate only costs the club $9 per year and I think it's a good measure to protect the site. I'm trying to keep up with the times and more upgrades are coming, for instance the forum software is quite old and doesn't adapt well to mobile devices.

Note: on certain threads where people have hotlinked images from other sites in their post, you may see a browser warning about mixed content. That is because all the elements on a page have to be served with HTTPS in order to be considered secure.

Another note: Tapatalk is encrypted now too.
