Would it be possible to post photos and what you think is wrong? We are can be a helpful bunch with photos!  ;D

What kind of issues are you having?

As for a mechanic, it helps to know where you are located and if you want to see our list of local shops that have been reported to work on older VWs, you can check out the link on our home page: www.volksfolks.org/vwshops

It appears that the mechanism, fan, duct work that would provide air to the windshield and side windows is not there. If this is so, what cost would it be approximately and who would you trust to do the work? I live in Hixson, Tn. Years ago, I heard that Bavarian Auto when I was driving/owning an '89 240. If you could call me at 423-240-7587 we could talk about this and membership, since it appears you are a club officer.

We purchased a $250 74 Super Beetle for my son when he was 14 and over a couple of years, made it into a fairly reliable daily driver.  He kept the car on the road until he was in his late 20s and we farmed out very little of the maintenance on the car over the years.  All that to say, I'm VERY familiar with a 74 Super Beetle.

If the stuff for the defroster is missing, the best bet is find a donor car in a junk yard to get the missing parts and install them yourself.  Most of that stuff is no longer available new, and finding a reputable mechanic that works on older air-cooled VWs for a reasonable price is getting to be a real challenge.  One of the big benefits of being part of this club is that just about anything you might need to do, there is a good chance, somebody around here has already done it and can offer advice . . . and sometimes, even a helping hand.
