Hello from Sullivan County!

« on: June 05, 2011, 07:17:45 PM »
Thought I would introduce myself. My wife, furry son, and I are up in Kingsport, TN. We have just become first time VW owners, specifically (dare I say it?) the proud new owners of a 1966 Fasty. She is a little rough and clearly in need of attention, however, she is beautiful to us. Fortunately, we wont have to chase moldings, door handles, lights, signals, as the vehicle is about 95% complete and orginal.

With that said, if any of you have hoarded away anything compatible, I'd love to hear about it. I need to chase down a hood for starters. I am not a body man and the hood looks should be far easier to replace than repair. Also looking for stock air intake and proper pre FI carbs.

We'll drive her for a while, then it's body off resto time.

I fish pretty regularly north of Chatt. Hopefully, I will get to meet some of you soon although it will be in my truck until I can work through the Fasty to ensure it's road worthy.

Thanks everyone. I am pretty excited. Heck, even the wife is pretty ramped up about it.

Working on getting it up here. We thought about driving it back but recent maint. is sketchy as the current owner just bought it to turn it. We thought it better to get it transported so I can go through it to verify road safety. While I am all for adventures, have the car die 600 miles from home did not sound "interesting" enough to take a chance.

If anyone has had any good experiences with an auto carrier, I'd love to hear it. Seems like most folks have horror stories to tell and not a lot of positive tales.

Do your homework on carriers.  The carriers would be a thing to do instead of "splattering" your new ride all over the freeway. 600 miles on a old unproven car sounds a little risky to me. Engine, transmission, brakes, tires , rotten fuel lines etc, etc,

I agree. I have so many quotes that I am trying to get through them all. Quoted everything from 503  to 720. I wont go with the sheapest for obvious reasons. Many fall in around 600-625.00 so I'll start there.
