Man that is bad luck!  You should be able to get a valet key for around 90?  ( plus programing) You should check the timing belt,  they were bad about breaking or shredding teeth,  You could turn the engine over by jumping the small starter wire to positive to do a compression check.  There are some people here to help or if you decide to sell it we have a section for that also

The valet just does not have the remote but will start the car once it is programmed

MAN!!  Its a heck of a thing that a person  has to pay over  $100 for a key to start the freaking car.The $100+ key will most likely be worth more than the car someday ::) I can't wait to see how long a starter/battery last with this  auto-shut off every time you stop the car. What happens when you get caught in a very long line of traffic and the engine stops and starts every 20 yards for X miles ?   VW tried this stupid trick(option) in the early 80's. I know we sold a lot of starter motors.

You are very welcome.  Just a reminder that they use to make real cars that you didn't need a Federal Grant to buy and a degree from M.I.T. to operate ;D

Nothing out of the ordinary.  David is just so old that when he get's wound up about something he has to overdose on Metamucil for about a week. That was just him downloading his constipated anger over the last 20 years about these "New-Fangled" VW's.  David thinks any thing made after the 1970 was a waste of effort....
But seriously,
David is still the only person I know though who was present when they dedicated the KDF car in 1938 though. Gotta give him some koodos for that...

WELL He better get use to it. Nobody is safe here including me. Brussels sprouts are a lot better than Metamucil beside it keeps "Possums" and "Bozo's" away when you express yourself ;) .  The key to the 2 holer didn't cost $135 either. ;D  I also have the original cute little pewter pin that the factory passed out when they dedicated the VW plant in 1938. I was only 2 years old but  when you got it, you got it. Air-Cools forever all the rest are Audi rejects.
