Bus Lover Cid

« on: March 31, 2010, 12:25:50 AM »
Hi all,

I'm a Bay/Splitty Bus fanatic from Chattanooga, already acquainted with Russ via TNEuros.com, and was told today by my good friend Chad Miller that I could find a VW friend in Mike Pleasant, so here I am. I'm still learning as I go, but in the year I've owned my own and the lifetime of growing up around them (some of you will remember Kite Volkswagen, that was my uncle and father) I've grown to love them even more.

I worked for Dick Kite in the early 70's on Lee Hyway and worked with Dick at Old Southland VW in the 60's.  What is your name ?

Chris Hayes, we might have met. My dad's name is Chris Hayes as well, he worked for Dick for a year or two, but that was before my time.

Fun fact #2: You might be more familiar with Scott Hayes who married Candy Kite (Dick's daughter). I'm his nephew.

May have met but I can't remember when or where.  All three of Dicks kids were sub-teens when I saw them last.

Welcome to the forums Chris. Did they have a shop just accross the dam by where there was a motorcycle shop back in the 80's. If so i remember them well. Many a fun time trying to get my 1970 bug at the time rebuilt and and running there.

Cool, they were great to work for there. After finishing " restoring / rebuilding " my bug and putting in a ragtop I left work and got to the intersection at BigRidge rd and Hixson Pike and a guy in an olds cutlass hit me at 45 miles per hour when i was sitting at the light. I had that thing out for less than 15 minutes and it was being towed back to the shop to be fixed. Ah great times............ ;D
