73 Beetle new to the area :-)

« on: March 19, 2015, 11:24:19 AM »
My name is Cristie. My four year old daughter and myself recently purchased a baby blue 73' Beetle :-) !!  His name is Vincent and he is already a big part of our family.  We look forward to becoming a part of the VW community and meeting new people!

Thank you! !! Yes KC, the radio hole is covered still :) another cool thing I haven't seen before is the windshield fluid pressure is controlled by the air in the spare tire! !

Ah yes, the old "we'll just use all the air in the spare tire before you need it" trick that VW played on everyone. It usually left you with a flat spare when you needed it most!!!

Ah yes, the old "we'll just use all the air in the spare tire before you need it" trick that VW played on everyone. It usually left you with a flat spare when you needed it most!!!

They had a spring loaded check valve that was supposed to stop the air pressure in the tire from going too low . . . and remember, back in the day, these little critters ran bias-ply tires, not radials.  The sidewalls of even the cheapest tires were pretty stiff if you compare them to a modern radial.  15 pounds of pressure would get you off the side of the road and to the next service station.  15 pounds in a radial and it's still flat.  The main reason bias-ply tires went the way of the dodo bird is that tread life sucked.
