VW Recalling 228,235 Jettas, Golfs, and New Beetles

« on: December 15, 2010, 03:36:48 PM »
Starting in 2011, VW will recall recent model Jettas, Golfs/Rabbits, and New Beetles for an improperly placed fuel line that may rub and start a fire. The recall is voluntary, and so far no accidents have been reported yet.

The models affected are:
  • 2007-09 Golf
  • 2007-09 Jetta
  • 2007-09 Jetta Sportwagen
  • 2006-10 New Beetle
  • 2007-09 Rabbit

They might be re-issuing that one.  I did some when i was still at the dealer, but maybe that was on the earlier ones, sma body styles.... guess they didn't fix it with the design change after all.   ???

Yet another . VW and Mopar recalling together for airbags going off by accident. Heard that on the news. Must be the VW/Mopar mini-van made in Canada.

So... David...

What the hell did auto manufacturers recall cars for when you worked for VW?

It seems like the only thing that gets a recall these days is something else put on the cars to "make them better and or safer"......  ::)

I'm just saying....  ;D

Ah, back in the day when stuff worked, mostly, and nobody thought to hire a lawyer to sue somebody when it didn't.

I don't recall any recalls back in the Bug days , only a few on the run mods. This all changed with the secret recall of big time oil burning with the early Rabbit. The factory fix was a sticker inside the gas filler lid that said to check your oil level. This led to a class action suit in the courts. It turns out that the valve stem seals were the bad guys. I had my shop at that time and if you can believe this, was working with VWOA out of Atlanta to replace the valve stem seals under warranty. We charged the owner and he was mailed a check from VWOA for the job. It seemed that the dealer could not do the job. How do you think that made us feel ? We must have done a 100 cars for VWOA.

Saw that mazda has a recall for spiders in or around their fuel lines. We have seen a ton of vw's with the recall at the dealer but no leaks at all

I don't recall that one. Are you talking about the shim between the cyl. and the head ?
