aftermarket glove box for my 95 cabrio

« on: December 07, 2010, 03:51:03 PM »
I keep seeing aftermarket glove boxes for the golf cabrios.  Since mine doesn't have one, I'm VERY tempted.  For some reason, I seem to remember a reference somewhere on the web that this was not a good idea but cant remember why.

Can anyone think of a good reason for me not to buy one?  I really need the storage.

Thanks!

As I'm not a huge fan of air bags, is it a problem removing the pass. side one and inserting the glove box?

As I'm not familiar with all it takes to remove one, is this a big deal?

My gti had a momo steering wheel and the airbag system had been disabledn I am sure there would be some modification to get it to work

I wouldn't give up an airbag for a glovebox.

Ok, Ok.  Rick had already talked me out of it.  I'll be good and leave it alone.  I really originally thought it would go where the knee pad is.  I didn't think it would go where the air bag is located.

Thanks guys.

I just found the reference I was talking to Rick about the other day when you were looking at my car:

"Trouble Spots
Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.

Airbags: Installing an aftermarket glovebox could cause serious injury in the case of a deployment. (1995-96)"

and wondered if this might be the issue my nephew could never find:

"Hard starting: Intermittent no-start or stalling condition is often due to the #3 relay. No trouble codes are stored in computer. (1993-96)"
