1997 A4 Quatrro Audi

« on: December 05, 2012, 09:45:55 AM »
Hey all,
I have a chance to get a 1997 A4 Quatro Audi for trade value of $1K.
It has a 1.8T and is a 5 spd 201K miles, body and interior = OK, not great , OK.
Has ricer cut springs or no suspension - rides hard, looks like Cat was removed and CEL is on, Brake light is on.
Is this the same 1.8T that is in the wifey's Passat ('04) it is a non Transverse.
I am wondering if I should get it and fix it (have the OEM suspension from the wifey's passat that I think is the same.  Engine has a BOV that vent's to enviroment (not good), but runs well, shifts good, etc.
I was wondering of this Quatro AWD could be squeezed into a MK2 or 3 later on if I wanted. I have been toying trying to squeeze it into the Ghia but there appears to be no way to make this happen and keep the rear of the car intact...
Just looking for thoughts. Any ideas, is this set up desirable for resale later?
Thanks.
KC

I am pretty sure you can fit it into a mk2 or 3,  high miles and a lot wrong with it,  the 1.8 passats are getting where they are worth around 2k or less if they have a few problem.  That's for a 98,99,00 model

Thanks Travis, I need a voice of reason sometimes.  ;D
I would have no monies tied up into it and could drive it until the Ghia is done to save on the truck's drinking gas (13.5 mpg baby!).
I'll drive it again and see if it moves me.

The transverse motors are not swap friendly to the oppositely oriented chassis. You will need another motor just to scavenge all the parts from like oil filter towers, coolant necks, manifolds, oilpan, ect. The aeb is also an older system electronically than your me7 based passat. It requires coil drivers, does not use VVT and has an anemic power rating because of it.

On a side not if you still are interested in a Tdi for that ghia I have a seized Tdi bottom end that you could use for fab and measurement work. It may be salvageable but it came w a car that I bought. I don't need it.

Sal,
I would be interested in looking at the engine to use as a measurement if nothing else...
I'll call you after the holidays when I have some time.
I have Albert in the Garage now but my new storage shed has an 10' wide roll up door so I could put albert in there and use the Garage for the Ghia.
Thanks for the offer,
KC
