Windshield rust repair

« on: April 03, 2011, 06:13:01 PM »
I've been putting this off for quite a while.  So when the rains came down over the last few weeks while I was camping and my floor mat got soaked, I knew it could wait no longer!

The new rubber came from Bus Depot and went on the windshield easily.  All i have left to do is drop it in after the paint cures a day or so.

I took the rust down and sealed everything with POR 15.  Thankfully there were no holes, but i did use a tiny bit of fiberglass RAGE filler just to even everything.

Then I used high build primer and then painted everything.  I actually used my airbrush to apply and blend the paint.  It worked great!!

I also did the steps under the rubber foot pads by the dog legs.  They were pretty bad too.

All in all this was a 6-8 hr job and was waaaay easier than I thought!

Just in time for BAP!

In case anyone was wondering, no I didn't actually paint it on the gravel driveway!  The after shot is hours later after I moved it to cure in the sun a while.

Thanks!  With a little help the windshield and gasket went in great.  I'll have to post a finished product pic or you can just look for yourselves in two weeks.
