I went. I looked. I liked. I own.
It's not quite like anything I've ever seen before. It's built on a shortened pre-65 pan (haven't looked up VIN yet). The package tray and front firewall/inner fenders are cut out of Beetle and the rest is custom fabricated from fairly heavy sheet metal. Needs some rust repair in a few places, but overall it's fairly straight and really solid. The fenders, running boards and engine cover are all rolled under at the edges and it's a fairly heavy guage metal. We found a state of Kentucky issued ID plate rivited to the inner fender up under the dash when we were hooking up the tow bar. The windshield is cracked . . . I'm not sure what it came out of, but it's flat so it shouldn't be too expensive. The windshield frame folds down flat like an old Jeep (maybe that's what the windshield is out of?). I think I'm going to try to find or make some vinyl covers and install the 96 Passat seats in it. Or I could just install some old Beetle seats since the original seat rails are still in good shape. I think the floors can be patched . . . if not, they will be easy enough to fabricate from some heavy guage steel. It should be a fun project. If nothing else, maybe I'll learn to weld by the time it's over.
I made a bunch of pictures but I can't get my card reader to work and I can't find the USB cable for my camera.
