Aaron,

For me, it's not all about how much you saved, it's more about "I did it myself."  I've saved thousands pulling my own engines, doing my own brakes, doing my own electrical repairs . . . But, if I had to figure in all the tools, bandaids, fire-fighting equipment (long story), and doctor bills (laying on the wet, cold ground in the middle of the winter might save you a few hundred dollars at your mechanics, but it isn't good for your health :? ) I probably should be driving a brand new SUV.

Guess I watched too many McGuiver episodes when I was a little younger.  I'd rather take a beating than pay someone that actually knows what they are doing to fix my vehicle.

Ah !!  O.J.T.D.I.M.(did it myselve) This is the kind of training that no amount of money can buy.  Talk about "Newbie" Im standing here looking at a brand new MIG welder and Reinhart (faux KdF Wagen) whose body looks like a surivor from Dunkirk thinking all the while that:
I can do this.   I  already have the Zen approved ,tried and tested safety/medical equiment at hand and the approriate gravel/mud work area. As Adm.Farragut said at the battle of Mobile Bay:  Damn the torpedos,Full speed ahead. !!  I guess I can call on Richard when I get over my head. He has replaced more pans than a hospital LPN.  :pukeright:

David after I get the engine and all in top shape maybe you can weld back on my rear apron. Someone already cut it and put fiber glass back over it.. I just ripped it off.. Thanks

Aaron, You are talking to the wrong person. You need to talk to Richard Strout. Is there anything left of the orginial apron ? You can buy a metal replacement  W/tail pipe cut outs.

Aaron , I would need to see the heads to make sure that I can replace the studs. If someone has put O.S. SAE bolts ,there may be a problem. As far as the rest , It would be routine , resurface the valve seats ,valve guides if ness. and replacing exhaust valves. No telling what someone has done when the "banged" the header on.

OK so what was the price on that?? I can't remeber...

I can take them off and bring them to you when i bring the tranny.. and i also need you to clean the heads if i can use them and clean the tranny if i can keep that as well. I am not sure but I think there is a leak in the tranny somewhere toward the front. Although it looks like engine oil..

Aaron, Around $100 incl valves. Any additional would depend on what I would have to do with the studs. I will check studs first to see if we can do anything with them. There is a weep hold on the nose cone of the tranny and over the years it will blow a little lube out. Also a little seal on the end of the shift rod that can seep. No big deal. Most all trannys will seep at these points over the years
