went to bolt it on after drilling the mounts in the bulk head ot, the bolts were to long and the beam extender did not match the bolt holes in the bulk head

details....

Don't most people use the joints from super beetles or something? I think they have universal joints.

Super Beetle u-joint shafts are EXPENSIVE if you buy them new.  What about rabbit stuff as well?  I dunno... I don't do much of the home-made special stuff.

I see what you were talking about now, Travis.  Yeah, I'd be bracing that set-up, yo.   ;)

i have the u joint set up off a 2006 passat steering column, they had a big problem and before they came up with a solution they were replacing the whole column, i took the u joint off one 6 months ago thinking it might work in the future, i am a little bit of a hoarder

I would also check at tractor supply. Seems that they have universal joints that are made for PTO stuff. Those might be a reasonable alternative.

If you make up something, I'd try to find some ball and socket swivel joints kind'a like the swivel joints they make to use with impact wrenches . . . they tend to turn smoother and not tie themselves in knots like regular universal joints can.  They are more like a CV joint than a univeral joint.

i also need to be able to secure the steering shaft, i have seen people put a bushing in the end of the tube,  and have seen it supported with a mounted bearing, i would need to know where to get a bearing, i have an extra column for parts

the other thing i was wondering about was lowering the rear, the 67 has some sort off stabilizer back there, i was going to eliminate it

Throw it in the dumpster... with a lower center of gravity, you'll never know it was gone.

And, yeah... '67 only thing if i remember correct... factory installed "Z-bar"
