New toy... been sitting in a barn for years until now.....

« on: January 15, 2012, 11:46:29 PM »
someone might remember this car... if you worked at the vw dealership around 10 years ago... Anywho, its been sitting in a barn for about 6 years, tag shows 05 or 06 on it. I plan on getting it road worthy here soon.

First, pictures from where it has been sitting the the barn:

oh, and some numbers... its a 98 GTI with 70,000 original miles on the clock. it also cranked right up in my driveway... Just have to do some work to "un-modify" it so it will pass emissions...  ::)

lol well this is probably the same car... it has had quite a past...some of which I have personally witnessed from the passenger seat... but hopefully I can breathe some life back into it. we did crank it up last night.. runs quite well. I am needing a part though if you happen to have any laying around.

Currently we cant get the car to shift into reverse due to a missing clip that holds the shifter cable tube to the transmission bracket. if you have any of those and dont mind meeting me somewhere in hixson, I could sure use it.

I remember that car. Why did it get put away in a barn? Not passing emissions?

well he lived in cleveland, so he didnt have emissions to worry about. not sure if he just got a flat and decided to drive something else, or if he couldnt get the shift cables adjusted right on the tranny. Travis came by and looked at it... I'm gonna go get some tires for it tommorrow and travis ordered me a clip for the shifter cables that was missing. I also cleaned it up today and took off the stickers...

Wow, I remember that car very well. I think that the guys name that owned it was Brandon. Its probably been a good 10 years, but I sold him a tranny or two for that car. If I remember right, the engine was nearly stock aside from NOS :o

yup that was him. He told me he had ran nos on it at one time... but its gone now. He did have a nack for going through trannies. Anywho... I've been driving it lately... she still runs unbelievably well... though the front struts are shot. I have been replacing (read re-adding)  the cat. converter back to it along with sensors that were removed over the years so maybe by this weekend i can finally get the check engine light off and get this thing registered. it is nice that after all this time its only hit 70,000 miles... although they were hard miles...

It only took a month and a half!

That's actually pretty good for a project car!
