New Beetle baja

« on: December 19, 2010, 09:58:47 PM »
This is my latest project it's a 98 new beetle 2.0 5spd that I'm turning into a off road capable baja. It will have a 3in suspension lift and I'll be runing 28in bfg mud tires and 15x8in aftermarket Jeep wheels with a 3-1/2in back spacing to clear the front struts.

he has put the lift on it and fitted the jeep wheels with spacers, now just waiting on the tires, i am sure there is going to be some cutting and welding to put 31s on this beetle

I have a chance to buy a 1935 Dusenburg(?) SJ and would love to convert it into a Baja if I can get some wheels/tires from a 747. Do you think I could get the wheels under the fenders as I don't want to ruin a classic car by cutting them out. I'm thinking about junking the old orig. engine which is still running and use a rebuilt Corvair. That way I could junk the grill and rad. What do you think?

Updated pictures. 4in lift and the tires are 4in taller than factory still need to cut the fenders and build some tube bumpers and make some skid plates

Saw this thing in person the other day at the dealership.  You need to post a pic of the headliner, Eric.  My favorite part of the whole car....  :D :P
