Just alittle update, since December I have replaced all the fuel lines, filter, injectors, vaccume lines, rubber break lines, and trannie pan gasket / filter. It starts well, but it's running a little rich in that I have fiddled with the AFM flap and gotten it off adjustment. I am planning on getting some new tires (correct ones- ouch...) and going to bring it up to BAP 11 for the movie or the Band. Kids think it is great. I have reman front calipers and pads comming in that they are not much more than a rebuild kit for mine and I have heard that the new ones do not bolt up right.
Has typical rust issues and may need a jack point, haven't determined if the tube is saveable or not.
OK here is the most odd stuff:
MCode states that it was delivered to Westfalia in 9-75, it is titled as a 1976, but has a 1975 1.8 engine and a 1975 back automatic. Some one changed out the heat exchangers with the nicer ones! Engine is a Reman with 16K on it. It sat for more than 10 years and seems to want to smoke when it is fired up after sitting, ( I have a little too much oil in it ...)
I have the paperwork for the engine replacement and the bill states that they were to reuse the tinwork and exterior motor pieces. So it must of been a 1.8 to begin with. YES, it does have the TSII in the annoying 1.8 L location of under the intake tube.
So it looks like I have a VERY early 1976 with 1975 running gear and a 1976 up interior. All the electrical is working but I seem to need a sylinoid to get the 2nd battery to charge from the altenator. It'll charge up from the outside, just not from the engine.
Any way, I hope that Kermy will be at the show with ASBug..
