You can come Sunday morning.  You'll miss a whole day (and evening) of fun, but the show registration doesn't end until Sunday morning.  Your car has to be ready to be judged no later than 11:00 AM Sunday.

     We all are the show staff and how are you going to know about something unless you ask? As for the security of your car, we have never had a problem. Just about all of the Scenic City Volks Folks camp at the show. We set up camp (some of us) on Thursday and stay there til everything is packed up and gone on Sunday. In the 8 years we have done this event, I can't think of anyone ever complaining about having anything missing or damaged.

Coming Sunday will be fine but you will probably miss some good tech sessions presented by a retired VW tech with over 40 years experience working on VWs.  You will also miss out on great food, cooked on site by the Shrine Ladies Helping Hands. Where else can you get a great, grill cooked hamburger for $2. Or where can you get good hotdogs for $1? A lot of fun will be missed by you not to mention the camaraderie you will have with other VW enthusiasts.

just out of curiousity, is there secure parking for "non-show" vw's? i didnt really plan on entering the show, maybe some day when she looks a lil better. me and g/f are gonna get a hotel and hopefully make both days. how bout hotel security? any hotels better than others? dont wanna sound all negative, just gotta watch out these days. i saved for a while for this thing and dont want somebody running off with her. thanks

Camp Jordan is owned and operated by the city of East Ridge, TN.  It's a large complex with lots of baseball/softball fields, several soccer fields, a walking/bike track, a fishing pond, a R/C Air Field, and a large arena in addition to the fenced field that we use.  They have parking to support several events at once and the entire complex is patroled on a regular basis by the East Ridge City Police.  If you park outside of the fenced-in area where we hold the show, it's an "at your own risk" deal, but the entire park is pretty secure.  Inside the show grounds it's still an "at your own risk" deal, but personally, I feel a lot better about parking one of my vehicles inside the fence at the show than I do in my own back yard!  Like Herb said, we've done this for several years and I've never heard a complaint about anyone messing with anyone else's car.    8)

If you want to park inside the fence and leave your car there unattended overnight, you've got 4 options . . .

1- Enter the show.  $15 pre-registered . . . gets you a reserved spot in the thick of the show and also puts you in the running for some cool door prizes.  And you never know . . . even if your car isn't "show ready," you might end up in a class without a lot of competition and take a trophy home to boot!

2- Set up as a vendor.  Also $15 pre-registered.

3- Join the club.  $15 for a one year membership.  You can display your car in the non-judged member area all weekend.  The downside . . . we'll probably put you to work!    The upside . . . you'll be a Volksfolks member!   8)  You'll also get free pizza after the show . . . before we put you to work again helping us clean up the field.

4- Camp.  $5 per person.  You can park your car in the camping area.

On the motels . . . see the "sticky" in the "Events" forum.

that is some good info on the show. i will see about the sat & sun. thang maybe we can do it ,it sounds like alot of fun.  :D  sounds like you guys put on a good show, we enjoyed it last year. i just wanted to know some people dont care about things . i have been involved in some shows in so. calif. and they where very profesional, run real well, and very organized.it made it very relaxing and fun you didnt not have to worry about anything and you new what was going on at all times .  :)  do you guys put on any other shows around here , or do you want to do more shows ? i live in the knoxville area and wish there where more shows around here. they used to have one in knox. but they quit for some reason. thanks for the info. later guys

There is a pretty popular show in Severville in the spring and fall (Circle Yer Wagens).  I think it's the first weekend in May and again the first weekend in October.  They should have more information on it a http://www.avwa.com. I don't know of any other shows in the Knoxville area.

The Volunteer Bug Jam that used to be held in Knoxville was a pretty big show for several years, but, it wasn't held in the best neighborhood, it was held in the hottest part of the summer, and got too expensive . . . attendance dwindled and it died.  I think the last one was either in 2000 or 2001.

I can't speak for everyone in the club, but for me putting on one show a year is all I care to attempt!  We are not a large organization.  If we tried to do more shows, it would spread our resources way to thin and the quality of the show would suffer a bunch!  Burnout would probably set in pretty quick too . . .and the next thing you know we wouldn't have the resources to do any shows and Bug-A-Paluza would go the way of the Volunteer Bug Jam.  I'd rather stick to one show a year and try to keep it going for years to come.   8)

i can understand the one show is enough thing it is alot of work . i have been to the sevier show many time it seems like a good show the only thing i hate is it seems like they just let people do what ever they want . for example they just let anybody including kids ride bikes and scooters all over the place  it just seems like that is not the best place to do that . they have hit me a couple times . just think if they hit a car or hurt someone . im not to comfortable with that my self.i think a car show should be a relaxing place to display your car and enjoy the day . not sit there and worry about someone messing your car up .  :?

I joined the club at last years show. And left my dunebuggy, cooler, chairs and carport shade thingy there from midday friday till Sunday evening did not mess a thing. I would not be afraid to leave anything there. The members that camp there keep a eye on things.

Jason is "right on" . It seems that the folks that honor our show with their presents are a breed apart if you compare them to other sites/shows. The East Ridge Police might make their visit known, but a security force of  on site campers are really hard to beat. I don't anything serious has ever happened and I would be very surprised if it ever did ,but God help the culprit if anything did and was found out. I think you can rest easy about leaving anything out. I would just let your camping buddy next door that you will be gone for awhile.

:D I totally agree that it is safe to leave your vehicle in the show area overnight. I know many folks who do it each year and I know we did when we were able to be at the show.
