Thats a shame.  I have often wondered about how effective seat belts in buggys would be. I bet you could stir up a rather large conversation over Lap belt v lap/shoulder belt v no belts at all.   I didn't have any belts in my Manx. No laws about belts back then. I guess I was lucky. Our beloved Buggys are not the safest thing in the world to drive. Just ahead of motorcycles I guess

Well, I think the best thing is to have a hidden roll cage.  A friend of mine equipped his with one kind of along side and under the fenders.  Tied into his roll bar, torsion tube on the rear and the front header.  Looked pretty good and strong.   Kind of reminded me of a Side Impact Protection cage in a Volvo.

I won't question that. We have been driving Volvos since '81. My little girl tested out our '81 240 GL in '85 .  She got hit in the right side rear door by a 18 wheeler at about 40mph. Made a horse shoe out of the car,but I still could open the other 3 doors. She got a little nick on her forehead from the rear view mirror when it flew off. You don't have to tell me about Volvo safety. I might have to look at my Allison.
