My '63 Bug project

« on: August 31, 2012, 05:24:15 PM »

Well, here is my project. 1963. Originally Ruby Red. 72k original miles. All original drivetrain. Brand new clutch and all brakes. I got the orignal wheels and hub caps with it, and a 1600 dp engine. Plans are to do the paint and bodywork for now and build the dp engine over the winter. Need to get it lower too. Welcome to any comments or suggestions.

Put the original wheels back on and get some original bumpers,  lower it,  of you really want to get low marrow the front beam

Nice bug!  8) Have you been driving on highway 58? I could swear I saw it drive by the shop the other day.

Haven't been on 58. Just brought it up from Florida last weekend. Been tooling it around my neighborhood, but that's about all.

On a trailer maybe?  I don't know, lots of times I look up or out toward 58 just in time to catch a parting shot of a car or bus. Seems that I have seen a few different vehicles these last few weeks, on top of the regulars. The car on a trailer was headed from 153 toward Harrison.  Whats on the other side of the 63, is that a shell?

It did come through that way on a trailer last Sunday evening. That picture was taken in Florida at my brothers house where I picked the car up and that's his '54 oval shell next to it.

Here's a few more pics. The worst is the "homemade" rear apron. I got a used one with it, but it's going to need a little work. Needs carpet and headliner. The rest of the interior is going to ride as-is for awhile. Going to lose the slot mags, because I don't like how they fit. And it needs to be much lower!

Not bad looking, just a wheel change will make all the difference. It amazing how drastically different a vehicle looks with just wheel choices, if you change ride height it won't even be the same car!
