At least the Germans didn`t blow the U.S. Navy out of the water or shelled parts of the California coast. How many people know that the Japs put a large I Class sub on the bottom of Seattle bay with a float aircraft on board. The sub surfaced at night ,launched the plane which dropped a few bombs in the woods (got lost), landed, re-boarded the sub and sailed out to sea without a problem. The sub was sunk later around Vancover. The capt. survived along with his log book. I think the subs # was I-16. Yes ,the Japs had subs that could carry a aircraft on board. Pretty amazing feat considering Seattle is about 25 miles inland on the Puget Sound.
