Drum -> Disc conversion

« on: May 10, 2012, 03:06:33 PM »
I am trying to change my drums to discs on the front 2 wheels and i've got so far to give up so i'm trying this to see if anyone can help me. I am trying to put the new disc rotors on but the nut with a screw through it won't tighten down correctly. So if anyone out there can give me precise instructions on how exactly to put the rotor onto a '74 beetle or something close to it I would really appreciate it!

I believe the driver's side is a left hand thread (righty loosen, lefty tighty). Put the bearings in place, put the washer in place with the tab in the slot. Screw the nut with the hex head bolt through it on (left for the left and right for the right). Put the side of the nut with the tension bolt on it towards the car. In this photo, the bottom goes towards the car. It is also the left on because of the L on it.

Unfortunately, I had those right. I didn't know it, but they were correct. My problem is really just that the six-sided nut with a bolt through it isn't fitting into my rotor.

I'm trying to understand what you are saying, but the clamping nut /screw is not suppose to go INTO the rotor. Do you have all the brg's and races installed .

I think I've found something that goes along with what you're saying. I think I was simply putting the bearings in the wrong places within the rotor. I dont have time to do it today but imma try it tomorrow and see if that's what it was. I'll get back to you guys on what happens.
