Alright, you butt dumplings....
I've been so darned busy in, under, on, and around this rusty turd that I haven't been watching the forums to keep an eye on the evil which comes from the triangle. Perhaps you are correct Zen. Perhaps you are safe within the triangle. But, venture on to any decent paved road and....WHACK! (Actually, the noise would be that of sifting rust and a clattering, loose door skin, but I don't know how to write that one up.)
I'm afraid she's gonna have to remain on the bump stops in the rear untill my lowered KYBs get here. Also, I'm gonna have to narrow a front beam to get enough clearance to turn the wheels without the tires scrubbing. Right now, as Scott said, I've dropped the tail 1 inner spline. The front has 2.5" CB drop spindles and I welded adjusters into the stock width beam. Gonna have to ammend that to probably a 6" narrowed beam b/c the 135r15 tires are rubbing and I'm not but halfway down on the adjusters.
"Scotty, I need more lowering"
"I'm givin' it all I can, captain. If I lower her any more she might drag."
The other alternative is to leave the shocks on and narrow the beam 2"....it would still work, but wouldn't be nearly as damned cool.
I began this rather outlandish little endeavour back on Sunday. The car was basically a stripped for parts, bone stock, heavily rotted OG Black '64 with the floors more gone than there. Actually, the evening Scott called me up and said I needed to come by so he could show me something, I knew I was in trouble. It was his fault. He was gonna cut out the package shelf and scrap the rest...Yeah, whatever. That butthole had heard me use the phrase "hoodride" about 500 times this past year. He knew exactly what the hell he was doing.
As of right now, (Weds. night), I'm slammed, interior is coming together nicely, steering and beam are re-worked, fresh sp 1600 is installed (including a little clearancing for the 12V Flywheel) floors are welded in and sealed up (at the seams where I welded them, at least)...She's like the Titanic. That one's watertight doors didn't go all the way to the upper deck, either. As long as I steer clear of the frigid waters of the North Atlantic, I should be just fine.
Tomorrow is the final adjustments to the engine and fire-it-up time. After that, I'll go through the brakes. I should start on the almost guaranteed joy that will be the electrical system and should be finished with that by Friday. (gotta swap out a bunch of bulbs) Just in time to get her detailed for the show this weekend. The real pain has been keeping those pesky "Pimp my ride" dudes with their bondo away from my darned little car.
Oh, and Godfather, to adapt the line from John Carpenter's "Christine"....
And because I have to wait for my beloved 1957-58 Plymouth (ahh, she is my unicorn).....
Her name's "Crustine"
