Charlie's 76 burn victim

« on: March 17, 2009, 08:29:53 PM »
Here is a few pictures of Charlie's burn bus.  It caught fire and burned on the day of our grand opening.  We got it back on the road today, now he just needs someone that can paint! :D   We moved a complete wiring harness, fuel injection system, gas tank vent system, and rear window from a 78 donor bus, installed new tail lights, blasted and painted all the engine tin.  The tin, cylinder head temp sensor, plugs and engine were all re-used,  It runs GREAT!  These pictures show it when it came to the shop and when it left today, I asked for some pictures of it when it's painted to add to the completed file
I guess sometimes they really do come back! 8)

Thanks!  He just needs a pair of heater tubes from the blower motor to the heater boxes to complete the engine compartment.  I was very suprised at how well the engine ran,  about a gallon of water came out of the crankcase when I drained the oil a couple of months ago, firemen are interested in putting out the fire, not in keeping water out of a engine :P
I really learned a ton about the type 4 and the differences between Bugs and Busses!
Maybe we'll see him at BAP.

It looks like they did their job well . . . most buses I've seen after an engine fire are burnt at least half way to the front.  Most of the time, they are a total loss.  Water in the engine is bad, but at least they kept it from the scap yard!  If the paint turns out as good as the engine compartment, you won't be able to tell it ever happened!  Great Job!   8)

The picture below is what they usually end up looking like.  Again, great job on getting it back on the road!

I guess Rick don't have any "Bus B Gone" spray cans laying around his shop.  He may have a corner on the market.

Hey Rick, I noticed the slammed bus is wearing his formal wear.  8)
He just needs a red bow tie.
