Bonnie's last ride was last June, when we cruised to the Dutch Maid Bakery. On the way, back Megan and I stopped in a the local Ham Radio Field Day event at Riverpark. Bonnie died on Amnicola due to what seemed like lack of fuel. I limped it a while and finally parked it on 153 and called for help. Towed it home and parked it. I finally got around to playing with her again last fall, and after tune up parts, everything was running great. Unfortunately, I had just gotten away from the house when she did the same thing. Dead, on a long street with no shoulder, going uphill. I rolled back to a side street and called for help. She has sat, until she went to my folks house in Feb, when the Trooper Bug showed up, then my Golf moved into  her spot for an engine swap. I towed her home yesterday and got to wrenching on her again last night.

When I messed with it in the fall, I topped off the tank, but it didn't drive 10 miles since then, so I figured, I had better drain the tank. I had a boat fuel hose with the bulb in the middle, so I pulled the fuel sender and started siphoning the gas out. Whoops! Overfilled one can... kitty litter to the rescue. Got it empty and went to remove it...that fuel line pulled apart  :o :o Glad I did this now! I am working on a revised fuel outlet option to put in a shut off.

I went ahead and pulled the distributor and noticed the bottom part that keys into the drive was loose and dropped down about 1/4". A spare 009 I have does not do that and I'm planning on swapping the whole thing out. I pulled the carb and it all looked clean. Should be back soon.

It looks that was June 23rd last year when Bonnie crapped out. I unfortunately let her sit through the end of summer and worked on her a bit in October or November. She ran for about half an hour (just enough to give me some confidence to drive away from the house) before crapping out again. I was busy with work, so I shoved her back in the garage.

Last night she fired off!!! A whole year since she last ran.

I put in a new 009, but it wasn't firing off, so I replaced the points and condenser with the ones out of Trixie (she got a Petronix). Still not firing. I needed plug wires- what do you know, I had a set of Bosch NIB on the shelf. Spark! But no fire... I got frustrated and just started turning the distributor all willy nilly. Finally one "Poof!" Kept turning. More "poofs." Little more and VRRROOOMM! Kept it running long enough to get a timing light on it and adjusted. I forgot the distributor drive was 180 degrees out.... :-\ ::) ;D

Now the carb needs a looking at. I'm gonna start with a fresh tank of gas before it goes sky-high. If that doesn't work, Trixie has a new carb in a box somewhere, so she'll get her new carb and Bonnie will get the known good carb out of Trixie.

I almost warranted a counter for the number of days since Bonnie Ran... almost!
