Sometimes A new engine can puff some smoke right on start up. If it seems a lot ,check your carb and see if you have a heavy choke when cold .  Keep a closer watch on your oil for a while.

Bonnie did it! She got us away from the reception. It was wonderful. Many thanks are in order as well as settling up with the flywheel.

I ran into the Godfather's neighbor who I met during the engine assembling process. He walked by why we were taking pictures and recognized me.

I think Bonnie got a little upset when we rented a mexi-beetle in cozumel. She must have summoned the weather gods and sent all of her wrath( about 50hp worth) and threw a tropical storm at us bearing her name. Luckily we hardly saw any storms or rain at all. In cozumel, every other vehicle was a beetle and all buses looked like they were watercooled. I have lots of pictures that I'll post when I get a spare minute.

on the cruise and older lady got on the elevator with us and she had an american flag bug shirt. I complimented it and she said she was a huge VW enthusiast. We talked for a few floors. I thought it was pretty neat to bump into another one on a boat.

pictures to come!

Pictures as promised:

Megan and Bonnie's surrogate

Water cooled bus with funny doors

Driving around Cozumel in the Mexibeetle

Another shot of beetle with buggies passing by

typical bugs everywhere shot

Why don't we have these VW trucks over here?

Name that type!

I have more pictures as well. More water cooled bays(one was hightop but a bad pic), buggies, bajas, more of the cut roofs, all sorts of fun stuff. It was VW heaven (cause more ran than didnt!) If anyone wants to see more pics, let me know; I don't want to crowd the forum

Nice pics. Need more.  I have said for years why VW doesn't send these later P.U.here. They even make a little Transit panel truck.  That little green car is called a "Brazilia"(?)with a type 1 engine. One will show up on E-Bay once in a while .I didn't know that Buggys were that popular down there.
Glad you Guys made it back OK.

Another interesting thing I found was a 2007 Toyota pick-up with a Gwinnett County GA tag.

I took a picture of the plate and the VIN.... I guess Cozumel is where all the stolen cars disappear to!
