Welcome aboard.... the car looks familiar.  Was it for sale on the samba for a while?

Not a bad looking start at all for a project.   8)

No ... I do not think it was listed on the Samba, but I'm not 100% certain. I bought it from a guy down in Madisonville, TN area. He didn't have the money to rebuild the engine and decided to sale the car to purchase a running vehicle.

I hope to find an engine and get it back on the road soon.

If the engine case is good/rebuildable, you can probably rebuild it for $700-$800ish. I rebuilt mine last may/june and I was very thrifty and shopped around. I bought alot of new parts from vendors at the shows to get good deals and save tax and shipping. I bought other parts at local suppliers. The hardest part will be the machine work and assembly. If you don't have someone to help you, get the Tom Wilson book How to rebuild your VW engine. I used to buy parts near the Zoo when I lived I knoxville. I think it was like Randy's Imports or something.

If you are willing to travel, our godfather does machine work for the club, but he is in chattanooga. Knoxville has a good club with plenty or resources, but don't let that stop you from keeping up with our club!

I joined the Knoxville club as well. I posted the same questions asking for advice on my project and no one has replied. A friend of mine suggested that I join SCVF because your group was much more open and willing to help.

I defintiely need all the help and advice everyone is willing to offer.

I would be happy to drive to Chattanooga. My job sends me that direction sometimes. I need to pickup the engine from the previous owner first then I will be able to answer the simple question ... "what engine is it?".

well check out that book and if you can make it down to any get togethers, come put a face with the name. Meetings are usually the third monday of each month and cruise ins are the first friday.
