Is it just me or does every 2000, 2001, 2002 era vehicle have crappy window regulators? Seems like everyone I know with a 2001 has had their windows drop randomly. My mother in law has had all 4 of her 2001 jeep grand cherokee's windows fall and all the regulators have been replaced. Must be a parts supplier issue.

You could be on to something Nick.  Mom has a 2001 Cavalier . . . I've had to replace the window motor/gearbox in both doors.  She's put a lot of miles on the car, but about the only time she rolls a window down is when she goes to the drive-through at the bank.  I would bet money that the passenger side window had been through less than 1000 cycles when it went out a couple a years back.

vw uses metal cables and plastic clips or guides that over time wear and break, they have had warranty extensions on some odels but i dont think the cabrio i one of them, being a convertable, i am pretty sure they are more expensive and they are def harder to install than the framed windows

I helped Justin repair the regulators in the '98 New Beetle he used to own.  Seems like the replacement pieces were heavy duty compaired to the originals.  For as advanced as most of the engineering on the car was, the widow regulators did seem a bit on the cheap side.   ???

Power windows are nice, but manual regulators seem to give a whole lot less trouble!  But for a lot of new cars, manual windows aren't even an option.

BMWs use a regulator clip that sucks just as bad....  ::)

I agree, all cars around that time have crap window regulators.

Whenever I pull a car in, I try to leave a window down.  Sometimes you get one with a wierd electrical issue and the doors may try to lock on it.

But, there's an important rule to observe.   you bump the window switch for no more than one second at first.  If you hear a crunching sound inside the door, you stop, grab hold of the window with the other hand, and roll it right back up....  :D

makes it harder to get on the lift but trying to sell a window regulator on top of what else is wrong is never good

You are so right...  :D

I love it when a customer is standing right there, and you go to roll down the window, hear the pop, and the window drops at the speed of light into the door.   :D :D

If the keys are in the car and I'm not, a window goes down. Whether its just to run and grab something, load something or whatever, its always down just a little bit. I like to roll down the back ones on my truck cause I can reach the slim jim behind the back seat- it helps to get the front doors open  ;D ;D ;D

Both back window regulators on the 2005 convertible have been replaced.  One by the owner when we bought it and one by us.  I think it was about $300.00 or so.  Hope that plastic lasts a while. :)

My 95 cabrio will need at least one, and probably two new regulators.  I'm not looking forward to that at all.
