yeah, I looked at the conversion tin at CYW last spring and talked to the guy. He was backordered so I waited. I wanted to buy, but didn't have the $220ish to buy it. Then Eike came over to work on the exhaust and said that since I was nice enough to let him use the welder, he had some back in Germany that I could have if I paid shipping. I figure it couldn't cost more than $220 to ship it over and it'd be cool to be one of the few with the Euro-tin.

Well if you got a line on some Euro tin then that's a good deal. There's some good stuff in this thread, which was posted on The Samba recently.

Yeah, I've followed Bus Daddy's continuous battles with people asking every week. I have to say that I'm glad they finally made a thread to put everything in. Everyone would scream USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!! but when you did, you just found every other thread with the same response.... ::) ::)

I'm not worried about getting it all the work out; its kinda like an adventure!!!

I haven't been terribly busy with Penelope, but I have been slowly gathering and planning! I had previously put a transmission in, and threw a beetle motor in to move it around the yard. I started cutting the rust and thinking about about patching it. I emailed the funky green guy, but I haven't heard back. I bought some sheetmetal from busdepot.  I've started cutting up the frame pieces I saved from the 76 I scraped out in June.

I also built an engine test stand. My old man gave me an old pressure washer that wouldn't run anymore and I took off all the equipment and modified the cart to hold a VW bell housing. He had previously mounted a receiver hitch on the front to put a trailer tongue in so that he could tow it around the yard. I built this so that we could more easily display the giveaway motor at Bugapaluza and possibly tow it around behind a golf cart while selling tickets. Anyhow, I pulled the beetle motor out of penelope and threw it on there with the hopes of cleaning it up and getting it running really well in a controled environment AND finishing the details of the test stand so that it will be ready for April.

Pretty soon, I'm going to have to start trying to fix the bad spot in the frame. Its still a long way to go...

This thread almost fell off the second page... But not yet!!!

I have decided to do a water cooled conversion on this bad boy. I was given a GM 60 degree 2.8L V6 and I just got the hookup on a Hadley Vango engine adapter plate. The guy claims it will fit Chevys and fords- I4s to V8s! Things are falling into place  8)  :greenbay: :redbay: :whitebay:

Here is the adapter plate and accessories. The plate is supposed to fit most 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines. Looks like the second to last picture is an adapter to bolt to the crank. I don't think my 2.8l V6 has that tight of a bolt pattern. Might have to improvise.

This uses the stock type IV flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. The disc in the top right of the first picture shows a plate with a needle bearing in it (needs to be replaced). The flywheel bolts to it. It bolts to the smaller diameter disc, which bolts to the new engine. Pretty cool, huh?
