1972 squareback- Goobie

« on: June 02, 2011, 03:27:15 PM »
So i picked up this car from a guy a few months ago, traded a 88 chevy k5 blazer for it. All together, i have 550 tied up in the purchase of the car, so its a pretty good deal. It's an absolute blast to drive. Im trying to figure out if i want to go full on rat rod volks with it or restore it and trade it for a bus somewhere (hopefully). So, I was trying to find some more info on this as well, but to no avail. Did this model come stock with the 1600 cc dual single carbs? Also, I was told by a not so reliable source that the front end was virtually the same as the stock beetle. The owner before me decided to slam it, and did so by removing the shocks, so the front end is pretty rusted.

No and no on all questions.   Type-3's were all fuel injection 1600cc  '68 up.  The front axle is no kin to the Beetle in any way.

Why would anybody want to do that ?  That Type-3 front axle is a lot stronger. Whoops!!! Sorry I forgot that there are a few people that want to make manhole scrapers out of their cars for some reason. ;D ;D
