I think when it's all said and done, I'll have two-three times as much time in the "reading about and thinking about" time than in the actual work time.

Everything I've built that came out good followed that math. 60% thinking,30% working.

Dave

My math has always been 10% getting it done, followed by 70% thinking "Wish I thought about it before I did that! AND "What am I gonn'a do now?" followed by 10% doing it again.  The other 10% is usually split between kicking myself and hangin' out with my little Mexican buddy Jose to help relieve the stress.

Changed directions slightly... stripping all of the aged all-over re-spray black paint from the interior while the run-off can still just drain out the bottom....

Hope to get back to the welding after all of the black is gone.

Nothing quite as pretty as 50 year old og Dove Blue.   Thank you Oven Cleaner.  Going fairly quickly, all should be cleaned off by the end of the weekend.

As it was before

Went in to work today to finish up the removal of all the black paint in the interior.  Went well.  All that's left is some edges on the cab doors, that's about it.  Really was surprised how nice the original paint looks in this pile. (the original INTERIOR paint that is...)

As before, nothing but Easy Off and some soft scotch brite pads along with a lot of work was all that was required. 8)

yup. pretty tired this morning.  But, glad that i got it done.  I had a hell of a mess to clean up in the floor from it.  I didn't want Waymon to come in Monday morning to a black lake of funk staring him in the face.

Headliner was in perfect shape, so i'll just re-paint it gray, and put it back in.  found the missing interior cab door handle under the front seat pedestal area.  The visor is in darned good shape, just need to clean it and put it back in too.  Very happy with how the day turned out. Now it's back to the nasty cut, grind, weld stuff.  At this rate, he'll be ready to roll just in time for the coldest part of winter.

 :thumbs-up:

Or maybe later.... 8)

WOW, what a difference!  Kind'a makes you wish they had painted the outside with the same black paint 40 years ago doesn't it!   8)

Actually, they did.  Only problem is the outside wasn't protected from the weather of Virginia like the inside was.  Scott and one of the other previous owners, Steve, over in North Carolina, had already removed most of the exterior paint.  Regardless, I was still impressed with how good 50 year old paint can look.  The interior back in the original color has really helped me get excited about this build.  I really wanted the interior to be in the og finish, not re-sprayed.

Yeah.  The spatter of paint on me and the sludge lake in the floor was pretty nasty.
