Those plates aint gunna break...ever! The fella who made them has made alot of them with no failures to date. They are the same ones Chip Foose put on the bus he did and the guy who made that set wasnt even close in skill to the fella who made the ones Rickie has. If they break Rick gets a free shot at me...I'm that sure. :wink:

Good . I always look at creations like that with a jaundice eye for a while. After all it is made in the Land of Fruits and Nuts.  :roll:  :roll:and besides they are closer to China than we are :lol:

I have seen some pretty shady looking creations recently. The plates have been out for a few years with no problems but I could see how a lesser fabricator could really go wrong .

Yeah, there's lots of stuff that looks like it's all welded up pretty, but if you put a little twist on it.... Snap.

Not worried about that with these guys.  This guy is good.   :thumbs-up:

Thats the only reason I questioned it was over the safety factor.  Pretty dang clever.

Yup.  Boy has done his homework.  I was quite stoked when i got em.  I am trying not to spend a stupid amount of money on this build, and am doing a pretty good job so far.

Hey "Grasshopper" Not really being a big fan of "slamming" these vans to the ground and have never done one or even looked at one up close, what new tricks do they have now for dropping, say a link pin Type-2 front axle ?   I really think the "Splitty's" look good done that way. Maybe a little less than Smitty's yellow van.

My personal plan....

Step 1.)  Flipped spindles.... changing the orientation of spindle to link pin carriers, a drop of approx. 3.5" by itself...

Step 2.)  Welding adjusters into the beam.... I plan to use CSP adjusters (similar to avis / puma / serrated adjusters).... adjustments of 4+ inches....

Step 3.)  I will build my beam with new tubing and aftermarket water-jet machine cut sideplates, will still retain shocks, and can (with these sideplates) narrow the beam up to 4" allowing for wider rims to be used.  Haven't decided on exactly how much i am going to narrow my beam yet.  I plan on mocking it up to figure out how much i need to.  

The last step that some do is to raise the actual wheel tubs for extra low drops, but my big fat arse can barely sit in a splittie as it is, so i am going to avoid that one... Also, some reposition the steering box by cutting, moving, and relocating that portion of the frame rail, mainly to avoid the possibility of hitting the steering box cuz they hang so low.  Still considering that one for my ride....

Get lil tubs done or run rubber bands for tires or it will scrub big guy.
Definetly raise the steering box..not maybe...DO IT! You do not want to catch a bridge abuttment or manhole cover on the steering box. Think of what it's attached to..steering colum...steering wheel....YOU!!! :lol:  OUCH!

Dont forget the new cool stuff like putting a ball joint beam in a splitty or a narrowed axel tube IRS trans in a split bus.. :shock: There's alot of crazy madness you can do now days.

Just a lil lowered? Everything Rick mentioned but to less a degree..literaly. :lol:  The straight axel trans and plates will lower it some just from removing the reduction boxes and thats without turning splines. Same basic parts: adjustable beam and spindles ...just use the beam to fine tune it to match the rear and not lower it more. The wheel/ tire combo is kinda more important on a bus as far as ride height/ride quality as well.
You kinda need to have it all together and use it all to find the sweet spot your looking for. It aint rocket science but it might as well be if you dont know what your doing.
I think Ricks got this one covered.

I think when it's all said and done, I'll have two-three times as much time in the "reading about and thinking about" time than in the actual work time.
