'73 Update

« on: November 23, 2008, 05:47:57 PM »
As most of you know, I am currently restoring my '73 std bug.  Here are the lastest updated pictures.  I have installed new rear wheel bearings, seals, brake hoses, complete new steel brake lines, e-brake cables, clutch and accelerator cables.

Very clean! It'll be nice riding around knowing how correct and sure everthing under you is. Is the copper looking line (furthest in the rear) the fuel line? If so, is it enclosed the whole length of the car? Remember, I'm a newborn VW baby. It really looks nice.

I assume this is what line you are talking about?  If so, yes it is the fuel line.  It travels the length of the tunnel and exits on the passenger side of the front frame head (part your front suspension mounts to).

Thought I would add a few pics of what I've been up to.  I am 90% done with the pan.  I am as done as I can be now I should say.  It's onto the body now.  It is fairly inexpensive to work with and will keep me busy probably until spring.  I had a few rusted through spots on the rear quarter that I cut patch panels out of a donor body and welded into my body (keep those thoughts to yourself Fred!).  I also was able to get one of the boomerang holes closed up also (the cause of the rust).

Here's a look at my clutter box.

Steady progress-I wish I could accomplish that. Have you decided on a color yet?

I am undecided on color.  These are two ideas I have floating around in my head.

They both look good. Maybe you could combine the two and do a two-tone tangerine and white (like a Creamsicle). I think the whitewalls do as much as anything for those two cars. They're a must-have in my opinion. When do you think you'll have it on the road?

I am hoping (and that's stretching it) that it will be on the road by the end of summer.  Probably September.  If it is, then it will have been one year since I purchased the car.

The whitewalls in my mind are a definite.  I haven't thought about your Creamsicle idea, but I will now.  I'll have to find a picture of someone's car in those colors and study it.

Here's something interesting. The latest edition of Rod & Custom (April?!) has a killer Model A sedan on the cover with this color combo and wide whites. It's tangelo pearl with a white top and white leather (dog-a-hide would look just as good) interior. It really is a clean look.
