The plate on the sump is for a type 3 oil filler/dipstick tube.  If I'm not mistaken, Brazilian cases are all that are availble from VW these days, and they are a "universal" case . . . you can use 'em in any Type 1, 68-71 Type 2, or any Type 3 application.

Most of the parts I've seen come out of Brazil are kind'a hit or miss.  Some are great, some are junk.  I got two Brazilian fuel pumps back to back that were bad out of the box.  The third worked perfectly and has held up for over two years.  The Brosol or Bocar carbs that come out of Brazil are great . . . but tighten up all the screws before you install them.  If you don't, they will fall apart in couple of months.  I haven't really heard anything bad about the Brazilian cases.   8)

Well in all honesty I believe this little 62 is shot. i salvaged the roofclip if someone needs it later. But I believe it would be to much to rebuild this booger. Any ways it will make a nice sofa and beer cooler for my porch.
I'm stil collecting up parts until I can find something usable.

What Zen said about the "hit or miss" thing is pretty much dead on. I spent a while paying my dues as a counter sales person and manager at a local parts sore.  We had mixed luck from the replacement cases.  The honest answer that I could give you is this: If it runs, has adequate oil pressure, and doesn't leak, you're good to go.  If it violates any of these criteria, well, then, you're not. Think I'm joking?   we had some guy buy a new case and before he put the engine together, (luckily) he realized that someone must have been taking a siesta as the oil relief ports had not been completely machined into the case.  (How's that for quality control!)

This one was running pretty good but it look like an ape put it together.Everything on it was darn near fingertight. On a side Note Rick do you still have the 67?

And also everyone keeps asking if were related?  I'm from here so I thought I knew all the Swaffords. I'm not sure how but I'm sure my granny the super detective could probably tell me how we are somehow related.According to her anyone with this name is.

O'Lordy Lordy!!!!!!   Don't tell me we are going to have to put up with the Swafford Twins, Scott "The Hood Rider"   and "Little Ricky The Red"   Sounds like a name for a Rock Band.

Scott, that bug came out of Cleveland and I don't think it has ever been in the "Triangle" at least to my knowledge it hasn't. The Godfather needed the chasis and that's how or why he got it. Good luck with it.

Sorry, Scott...Been out of the loop for a few days.  Don't Know if we're related.  I come from a long line of Bledsoe County Rednecks ( I'm trying like hell to live up to that legacy, by the way.)  Yes, I do still have the '67, but, as I have owned this car twice now, Bug-a Paluza lit a fire under me, and I've already begun building a lowered custom job with it...How's that for a change of direction?! It's amazing how I can have a change of heart over the course of a month (That's part of the reason, the other is that the '64 is still in bare metal and I've had it taken apart so long it'll take me another couple of years to find the pieces...I can't stand not having a running, moving air-cooled toy any longer)
