how bad is a bus beam to replace, i t looked like it might bolt though the body under the seats?

Not hard.  you have to undo the shift rod that passes through the beam.  unbolts, slides down and out....

If this is still Mike's bus... I thought it was a '71.   ???

All '71 and later beams to my knowledge are the same.  The main differences are 1.) power brakes on those models and 2.) Wide five pattern on 68-70 Buses, while the later 71-79 Buses use the small 5-bolt pattern like the Vanagons.  Domed caps.... wide five... flat caps... small pattern.

this is joe's bus, i think it is a 70, then that would make putting the 71 beam a little akward to run 5 lug on the back and 4 on the front

4-lug????

Now I am really confused....   ???

If you mean the light blue bus I saw pics of a while back, that's a '70 I am pretty sure, wide-five pattern, so you would need to stick to an earlier bay beam.

I sold my 72 Beam to somebody (Mike?) a few months back.  I have a shell of a bus over at Kyle's place that still has the front beam bolted to it . . . I think it's a 68 or 69, but it might be a 70 or 71.  I think the beam is O.K., but I haven't looked at it real close.  I'll be out of town until Sunday night . . . If you are interested in it, I'll check it out one day next week and find out for sure what year and the condition.
