WTB - Reasonably priced engine....

« on: July 12, 2013, 01:37:33 PM »
Hey all,
I am working an option on my Buggy for a trade on a '67 Ghia.
I do not want to send the 800 mile since overhauled 1600 SP with the buggy.
the Ghia has an original Small Single port (1300?) in it, so It will just have to go...
I am looking for a running 40 hp or a 1300 or larger that is a running engine.
I have a 1500 SP from a bus with a documented 30K miles I may throw in it, but I'd like to keep it for the busses I always seem to find that have no engines in them...
I have a 1600 in the thing which is a good engine as well, but it is an AM (thing block) and is all dressed out for a thing.....

Just seeing what is out there.
I was told that the engine in the Ghia is the original one, so I would like to have it or I would just trade engines with them....
Auuugh.... Any one have a reasonably priced engine?
-Nick?

If the orig engine is in the '67 Ghia, it would be 1500 cc.  I would bet is now a 1600cc. Nobody rebuilt a 1500. They just installed 1600 pistons/cly. If you think it has a 1300cc ,the case # would start with a F.  Its a lot of trouble to convert a 1300 to a 1600. The 1300 stands alone.  As far as HP goes : 1200cc=40hp--77x54
                                                                    1300cc=50 hp(one year  only)77x69
                                                                    1500cc=53hp--83x69
                                                                    1600cc=57hp--85x69
                                                               All these are single port

OK,
That is helpful.
I would like to keep the engine out of Al and use it in the Ghia.
I may put the bus engine in it, but I really want to keep it too.
LOL.

I might know where one is... Talk to Matthew, aka PapaKoch. I know he only has one beetle but two engines. He was just talking about maybe moving one!
