Depends what part of 71 it was built.I can't remember if it was 71 or 72 when the steering shaft got bigger.

All of the 71s I've owned had the old style steering wheel, and all of the 72s had the new style.  I think it was changed with the start of the 72 model year, but that's just based on my experiance.  I could have actually changed in the late 71s or early in the 72s.

The reason I wanted to trade for wheels is that I got a 69 Bug this weekend. If you find any wheels let me know.

Gary,
What is the diam of the wheel?
I have a '69 ghia that this will bolt onto.
What I have is a set of Rivis (5 - yes 5 of them).
They have 3 165 R15's with no cracks but are not new, good tread, was running on the Ghia until I got the T-Backs.
There are 2 almost new 185 65 15 Goodyear Viva 2's on the other wheels.
I have all the needed lugs tuds, and 4 good center caps (black).

They are currently on the T3uck but it will be a while before I get it on the road.

PM me a #.

I replied to the PM.
My fat legs will not fit under that one...
Sorry bro.
I am going to end up with one of those Formuling ones from the 80's.
Black leather and a big blue VW logo will match the look of the Ghia vert.

I'm still interested but keep accumulating more cars instead of getting rid of any
