Ask Zen about his attempt to buy a whole Beetle just to get the sunbug emblem off of it, very funny.

I don't know how I missed this post earlier . . . A few years ago I found an emblem (not the one ASBug mentioned, that one went up in flames . . . long story).  I let Herb Keedy use it to make a mold and he reproduced several of them.  I don't know if he has any more, but he probably still has the mold.  I'll call him and let you know if he has one.

Oh, and by the way . . . that story about buying the bug to get the emblem wasn't all that funny at the time!  I was thinking, well, it may be rusty, beat to a plup, and has no brakes, but it's got a good sun bug emblem . . . maybe it wasn't a total waste of my $200.     Then about 1/4 mile from the ladies's house where I bought it, I was sitting at a stop sign and noticed a lot of smoke coming from the deck lid.  The car had been sitting for several months and the engine was coated with oil, so I figured it was just the oil heating up and burning off the heater boxes . . . until I noticed the flames.     The fuel line between the pump and carb had busted and by the time I got the fire out their was no insulation left on any wires in the engine compartment, the bottom of the breather had a big hole burnt in it and the emblem was shrunk and curled up on each end.  A set of plug wires, a roll of electrical tape and a piece of fuel line got it going again and I drove it on home, but the emblem was a total loss.   :?

you must have spent a small fortune by the time you finally got a emblem for you sunbug. Do you still have the car ? Mine was a original paint 38,000
mile superbeetle, until my portable tent style garage (made in china)collapsed on top of it, during a snow storm with 3 inches of wet snow.
it's now repainted and back together, and I would like to find a emblem
to finish it off. If your friend has any left to sell please let me know.

I forgot to mention my story. I have a sunbug emblem that I bought  on ebay about 2 years ago. I kept it in a safe place so nothing would happen to it.
I was planning on installing it when the car was repainted. It was a reproduction and looked perfect. It broke when I was installing it.

The funny part of the story is where he puts out a gas fire with just a bottled water!!!
Strange but true!
