Starting to look.....

« on: April 28, 2009, 12:16:33 AM »
After starting to work on my new 76 Bus project i know i need to find a set of the front reflectors ( go on the lower part of the front doors ) and a set of the rear side blinkers ( go on the lower part of the back side pannels ) . I know there are a few more things that will come up to find but this is the start sence i have been working from the outside in. Thanks for any help if ya know where any are.

Thanks Russ for the links. If i have to buy them new i will but this is going to be a fun bus to be used not one that is just taken to shows and club meetings etc......... . I will take some old used ones if anyone has some in a box some where. Oh i also need to find the 2 outside mirrors. They do not have to be in great shape as they are going to be painted. again used is prefered. I just wish i had this bfore Bugapalooza 11 so i could have got them there.......

Strange thing about people and I'm as guilty as anyone about this.
Why do people go looking for tires, groovy rims ,sound systems, interiors, chrome goodies, repair rusty bodies  for a project that doesn't even have a engine, tranny, ?  By the time you get all of this stuff ,you are worn out and spent all of your money so there is nothing left to make the project run much less driving it down the road.   You would think you would want to get it mech. perfect first. Brakes, steering, engine and tranny etc. so you could at least move it or drive it down the road while you are finishing the job as you can.
Roadkill, I'm not picking you because I have done this very thing.  I just find this kind of interesting that people do this in that order most of the time :?

Just my opinion but the "stuff" is cheaper than having mechanical things done to your ride. Before I started on FeeBee's motor and tranny I did buy some cutsie things just because they were cheap and it made me feel good. Once you start on the motor and transmission you don't have money left for the cool things. And the cools things are what makes you  :D  :D  :D

I agree with Virgo. It is easier to get the " goodies " for the build. I really do not need an engine and tranny in it at this time as it looks good in the back yard and it is light enough that i can push it back and forth as i need. I am cleaning up the body and paint to a point where it " looks good " but is not show room condition. The imperfections give it character. Then the inside will be done. I have the ideas set for that and will continue to have fun with that. When i have all that done then i will get an engine and tranny put in it. As i am going to put a type 1 engine in it i will not need to spend as much as a normal bus engine and i can do alot if the work on it.

I could always get Bunut to switch my bug's engine and tranny to the Bus when the time comes and then have him build me a super engine and tranny for the bug..........

Hey ! I got an Idea,  Why don't you get some LED lights for your tranny ?   Then if it falls out at night you will be able to walk back down the road and find it.  That would be really "Cool" .  What do you think ?

Nah, a horn that plays "One piece at a time" by Johnny Cash would be cooler.    :D
