I've probably got one.  I have several stands, but I'll have to dig through them . . . they all may be for generators only.

Any particular reason for converting to an alternator?  I know they put out more amps and the brushes last longer, but unless you are running a huge stereo or some type of high powered lights, a generator should put out plenty of juice.  I like generators, 'cause if a belt breaks in the middle of nowhere, you can wire it to run like a motor and get a few miles down the road without overheating the engine.  The trick to getting good service out of a generator is using the correct regulator.  Bosch makes a solid state regulator now . . . even if you have a good points type regulator, it's worth the money to change it out!

im thinkin an alternator, mainly for some stereo equipment, and brighter head lights!  dont know how much longer the Gen. will make it.  at night the light glows just a bit, untill it hits higher rpms then it get brighter...  also have plans of wiring up a dual battery at some point, probly gunna be rooming in the back of it in the summer up on the river. from what i've read i should be able to use the tin, and strap from the gen.  i've read a few difrent things on the fuel pump.  seems like mine will work, but i wont be able to get it off if needed with out removing the stand, am i correct?

You could use the pump that was made for use on a Alt. set up. This pump sits lower and angles back toward the dist.  You have to also use the shorter push rod.
I prefer the gen. myself . Sounds like you might already have a problem with your gen. or reg. if you are getting a light at any speed.

I think I would be tempted to try a new reg.   90% of the time its the reg that causes the gen to burn up.
Saying a gen. is ALMOST going bad is like saying a light bulb is ALMOST  burn out.

For the first 3 or 4 years I was driving Homer the Super Bus, I went through about 4 generators, a dozen regulators, 3 or 4 starters, hundreds of bulbs and averaged about 1 battery every 4 months.  I replaced the regulator with a new Bosch solid state unit and I haven't had to replace anything electrical since then.  The battery was already damaged . . . it will go dead in less 10 minutes if you leave the lights on, but as long as I remember to turn the lights off, it works fine . . . and it's been like this for at least 4 years.  The regulator is (at least was) under $35 and it's easy to change.

An alternator will put out more juice . . . but if you don't really need it, it's a lot of work and expense without much in return.  At any rate, I'll dig throught the garage this weekend.  If I've got an alternator stand, you can have it.   8)

Let me know if you dont find one I'm sure I have one out in the garage and I hate alternators so I'll never use it. free of charge if you need it.

Alternators in my opinion remove some rotating mass from the whole equation that is meant to be there. If you do run one consider a heavier crank pulley and keep a stock flywheel. Make sure the fan nut is torqued down real good as well.

Me and my big mouth.  Tonight after the Ringgold parade, I was wiggling the headlight switch trying to get my dash lights to come on.  I've always had to do that, but this time sparks started flying out of it.     I figured I better leave well enough alone and drove home with headlights, but no dash lights.
