Need a donor engine for the next cutaway

« on: March 09, 2010, 10:50:42 AM »
Just what the title says, people.

I loved building the cutaway for the show last year, and would like to do another, either type 3 or 4 engine to show / compare the differences in the engines.

What I need is as close to a freebie donation as possible, and as complete as possible so I can quickly hack into all the parts without a lot of parts searching.   ;D

Anybody got any leads?  Just post them up here.

Thanks,
Rick

And while we are on the subject...

Any other interesting "how they work" components that anybody has in mind?

Feel free to offer suggestions here.  Engines aren't the only interesting part of the car. I would like to have some stuff for visual aids for the tech sessions.

Brakes?  But I guess it's kind'a hard to do them as a cut-away . . . unless . . . hummmm.  Let me thing on that on a while.  I've got a couple of really hairbrained ideas.

I thought the whole hockey stick setup was cool when I took the nose cone off my trans. Might be cool to see what else is in there.

The current one has a complete engine, transaxle set-up for the cutaway.  I think the trans. got more interest than the engine did.   ;)

I actually thought about a driver's side section of a front beam, complete with the gearbox and a spindle / brake assembly on it. Got a used beam by any chance?

I've got a 72 bus beam.  I've also got an autostick tranny, but it's supposed to be a good one, so I don't think I want to get rid of it just yet.

Does the bus beam still have any of the brake stuff on it?

And, yeah... if there is some chance of the tranny being good, let's not be tearing that up.

I took the control arms off, installed new ball joints in them and swapped out with Homer's.  So, it's not in one piece, but I do have all the parts for a complete bus front beam, spindel to spindel, including the rotors, calipers and the master cylinder.

Awesome.  what i was basically thinking was to build from the stationary block in the center to the side, and mount it on a stand.

I have a spare 1800 type 4 engine just sitting in my garage, so maybe we can work something out. the short block is still bolted together, and the heads and pistons are removed. I think I still have everything. Let me know and I'll be glad to let you take a look at it!

it is the block with everything in it, mechanical fuel pump, rods, pistons, pushrods and tubes, cylinder jugs and heads. Also since my bus is an automatic, the driveplate is still bolted to the crank (instead of a flywheel). The only extra sheetmetal I have is the ones that go under the jugs. all the rest was transferred to my new motor when I bought it. but i'm thinking the rest you might be able to source up from somewhere.... maybe R&M has some of the other stuff you can use... feel free to hit me up on my cell 240-1829. I'll be around all weekend.
