I need an affordable mechanic... - air cooled

« Reply #15 on: March 29, 2005, 03:08:43 AM »
David, I need help also.

Here is the deal.  On cold mornings and it just started doing this it wants to idle a little then wants to choke out and die. the only way I can keep this from happenin is to keep the gas down. It doesn't do it on warm days. Then when i run it , it runs soo smooth without a problem except when i downshift real hard she back fires.. Like one good time.. And also I have noticed that she floods out when hot.. I mean if I run her and then come back after say about 10 min she will start just fine. anything after that and she doesn't want to start you have to hold the gas and of course this causes some of the flooding. And in the cold morning deal she just throws raw fuel out of the pipes. I mean not in liquid form but smoke form. I mean because all you smell is smoke.. I wished you could help me. I can bring the bug to you because all and all it runs great.. Please help.. And another thing does anyone know where i can get this car painted and have some minor body work done on it without it costing me a arm and a leg??????             :(

Thanks  please help me fix my bug ......

Here is the deal. If we can get the weather to settle down I can help you out.
I have to work outside. My basement has to much stuff in it. I don`t really like to work on the weekends because I can not get decent parts if we needed them. I like to use orig. parts if I can .Cost a little more, but they work.  You are having the same problems that everybody has when they buy a car thats been sitting around. They just barely patch up things to get them to run then hit the road ending up with all kind of problems. You need to do basic things ,tune ups, oil, brakes, repair things before they fall off or leave you stranded.

71 S.B. and I had a long talk about 009 v 34-3  .He is going to replace the 009 with a vac. unit.  Cheaper than "junking " a brand new carb.

Aaron, Monday is not a good day. I still have to go get your bearings today. They sent .020 size Friday and not .010. They will not be here until  about noon.  This would not give us enough time to do hardly anything. I will put the case together Tuesday and save the rest for you.Doing it this way will speed up things because we have to deal with the tranny still. I will "walk" you through the rest. That will take long enough seeing this is your #1 shot.

Your plugs look new . We can use them if you want too. Your Bently book is far better. Somtimes the Haynes Books can lead you down the" Garden Path"
