Engine Parts WTB/Donated

« on: March 11, 2011, 11:48:45 AM »
We are trying to put together an engine for BP13 and are needing some parts. I had been posting in the member's only side, but now I'm putting it out there. We are looking for donated or cheap GOOD usable parts. We already have some things but I plan to update the "need" list as things come up.

Right now we are needing:
Gland nut, Engine Hardware, Lifters, Gears, Tins, Coil and bracket, heads

Of course we will need some other items that are needed in new condition:
P/C, all bearings, oil cooler, oil/fuel pump-rod, oil pressure switch

If you have any of these parts and would be willing to donate or sell for low price, we'd be greatly appreciative.

My reply to your recommendation in the other thread:

Got any good leads on a core? Trust me, I looked. I searched craigslist and the samba along the route I took two weeks ago that was about 400 miles each way. I found some, but I didn't think we should pay ~$200 for a core.

I did find a guy willing to send us a core for $95 plus shipping... Anyone know how much that would be? It was a type 3 motor, but it could be converted to upright.

Unfortunately....

I tore into the engine and before I got the pistons and cylinders off I knew there was a problem. There were parts rattling around inside and when I got around to pull the P/C, some of them wouldn't budge. The #2 piston actually just kind fell all the way flush with the case. I couldn't get it all disassembled properly so i decided to split it and wrestle it apart. When I pulled the oil pump, the tab that keys into the cam was broken off and the cam gear was bouncing around inside. Turns out the #2 rod broke, the cam broke in 4 pieces.

We did get some good pieces and the heads look to be good. I know you talked about getting the oil cooler back, but I don't know cause the whole case was full of crap. We wont be using it but I doubt you'd want to either. We got some great parts though! Thanks!

I have many times.   Lots of revs, no oil/pressure , toss a rod, Rod breaks into many pieces with help of the crankshaft  results------------Could have locked up the oil pump to start all of this mess. She must of run for a min. or so before she locked up.

Well William and I talked and it looks like we have more parts that lean towards a dual port (i.e. heads!). So we've decided to switch to dual port for this one so now we need The center intake piece, doghouse fan shroud We already have the studs to switch the good case over to the dual port.

We also still need an oil pump and pistons and cylinders and a good crank, obviously in usable condition!

All single port related parts that have already been donated will be returned or we can plan on using them for next years engine (never too early to start planning!!!)

Some parts should be new.  Pistons/cylinders, oil pump, all bearings, push rod tubes and exhaust valves . . . we should either get them donated or shell out the cash.

All these "Done Deal" projects are playing hell with the bank account. Careful !
I think I do not have to explain this.
