Engine Case

« on: December 03, 2012, 08:36:11 PM »
I need to find a dual relief case for an engine rebuild. Does anyone know where I can find one that's not warped? Line boring will not be a problem.

I have one that has already been bored and has been opened up for larger pistons.
I also have a set of single port heads opened up for this block.
$100 for all.
HEads will need new valve seats.
I am about 6 miles from you.

Thanks KC. I was looking for a factory case but what size PC's will the case accept?

I got this set up from Rob (azenlunatic) on the samba. (He lives in Rossville, GA.).
He told me that they were opened up to 92's. The align bore was at .020" over as was the thrust bearing.
Case has been cleaned, but has been sitting.  There is no grease or grime on the case or heads so you can see what your getting into.
It will be years before I get the desire to build a larger engine than stock.
I also have a set of cast aluminum Single port endcaps that allow you to mount a larger carb (DP or Webber 2bbl.) to these SP heads. Uses DP intake boots.
Let me know.

Didn't Mike Pleasant have that kind of weird  set-up on the first engine in his Rat Rod ?

I think he had a dual port if I can remember correctly. I recall a single center carb before he swapped to duals/swapped engine (don't know which came first or if they came together). This is the only photo I could find in our gallery that showed the rear end of Chatt Rat. It shows dual port castings going to a center, but I can't tell what it is.

I have a case clearanced for 92s, but the dowel pin hole on the #1 bearing has a chip out of it. I'm thinking about re-drilling and relocating the dowel pin to stay away from that chip. Everything else that came from that long block looks like it could go back together. I'll use an old bearing and drill out the pin hole in the bearing and then use it as a guide for the new location. Whata ya think?

KC, how do I get in touch with you? I need to see if car owner wants an engine that big but I would still like to see it?

The engine Mike started with had a big piston/cylinder kit in it . . . I think they were 92mm, but it had stock (other than being cut for the big cylinders) single port heads, intake and carb.  When he rebuilt it, he stuck with the same size cylinders, but bought new dual port heads.
