Distributor clamp

The good news is that I finally figured out why the Ghia is having engine problems - the thread on the distributor clamp has no thread left so there's no way of clamping the distributor, so it happily rotates round.

The bad news is that I can't get the existing bolt out of the clamp to replace with a new bolt.  Does anybody have any ideas how to do this? Failing this, anybody have a spare I could buy off them?!

The bolts on most of them I've ran across are bent in the middle from too many years of folks overtightening them.  Try cutting it in the gap of the clamp with a hacksaw, then putting the clamp in a vice and pull the bolt out from each end.

If it comes down to needing a new clamp, I've got a bunch of them.  You can have one free if you come get it, or if you make it to the meeting tomorrow night, I'll bring you one.

Yep that's the problem here - it's bent in the middle and I don't have the tools to straighten it out.

I've managed to secure the distributor using a crafty bit of metal wire so we'll be at the meeting tomorrow.  If we could have a spare clamp I'd really appreciate it!

Many thanks,

Matt & Al

I will bring my light with me Monday night if we can replace the clamp on the resturant lot. God only knows where your Ing.timing is . You don`t want to melt your engine down over a 10cent bolt. :(

Thanks, would be great to get it tuned! The distributor popped out earlier today so could do with being clamped down properly!

Thanks again!
